1928 Philadelphia Mint Peace Dollar
The Peace Dollar series ran from 1921 to 1964 with the obverse depicting capped head of Liberty facing left with a headband of rays, and the reverse, eagle standing right on rock, wings folded, seen from the back, branch in talons, rays behind, PEACE below.
According to Jaime Hernandez, The 1928 Peace Dollar has the lowest mintage in the entire Peace Dollar series by a large margin. The second lowest mintage is the 1927 Peace Dollar, which has more than double the mintage of the 1928 Peace Dollar.
Because of its low mintage, the 1928 Peace Dollar has always been considered a key date. Hence, many examples were saved and well preserved and most surviving examples remain in uncirculated condition.
The peace dollar is composed of .900 silver and weighs 27.73 grams. The example in the photo is the example you will receive and although we are classing this as a bullion purchase the coin itself is, about uncirculated to low mint state, although has been handled.
